Public Sector Excellence™
Public Sector Excellence™ is an independent non-profit citizen-centred brand-driven
initiative to assess, inspire and celebrate excellence in the public sector. It’s
a proactive vehicle to give citizens a voice in public service and to give input
to government and its agencies, SOEs and communication partners responsible for
delivering social services and communicating with citizens.
“The Public Sector Excellence initiative is an inspirational model for recognising
and showcasing excellent agencies and programmes, as well as high performing public
servants, which will lead others in moving “from good to great,”
Nancy R. Lee, best-selling author and co-author with Philip Kotler of “Marketing
in the Public Sector”, Public Sector Excellence 2009.
“We are in the process of building a performance orientated state which should practically
turn our promises into action. Our actions should begin to impact directly on what
our people are experiencing on daily basis when they come into contact with government.
It is for this reason that we did not hesitate nor doubted our commitment and participation
in the Public Sector Excellence awards,”
Hon. Minister Collins Ohm Chabane, Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation,
Public Sector Excellence 2010.
The Public Sector Excellence™ initiative comprises research, training and
awards to recognize and inspire excellence in the public service through its government
departments and its agencies and SOE’s, and a Lifetime Achievement for Distinguished
Public Service to recognize retired public servants who have served South Africa
for more than 20 years. More >
The inaugural Public Sector Excellence™ held in 2009, was hosted by the erstwhile
Minister of Public Service & Administration, Hon. Minister Masenyani Richard
Baloyi and the international best-selling co-author of “Social Marketing – Influencing
Behaviours for Good.” Professor Lee hailed the initiative as an inspirational “model
for showcasing excellent agencies and programs, as well as high performing public
servants, which will lead others in moving ‘from good to great.’”
The second Public Sector Excellence™ in 2010 was hosted by Professor Gerard
Hastings (OBE), the international best-selling author of “Social Marketing: Why
Should the Devil have all the Best Tunes?”, advisor to the Scottish, UK and European
Parliaments and the Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Minister
Collins Ohm Chabane, who acknowledged the relevance of the initiative in giving
government and independent perspective and evaluation of service delivery.
“The global financial crisis, driven by failings in the private sector, only serves
to emphasis the crucial role of the public sector. The Public Sector Excellence
initiative is a superb initiative which helps ensure that this vital dimension of
any modern society gets accurate performance feedback and so continues to flourish,”
Professor Gerard Hastings, author of “Social Marketing: Why Should the Devil have
all the Best Tunes?”, Public Sector Excellence 2010.
